Beacon Journal staff report

Record temperatures were set across much of Ohio Saturday as warm air and sunshine brought April-like weather.

The Akron-Canton Airport hit an unofficial record of 67 degrees in mid-afternoon, well above the record of 60 set in 1981. Temperatures are predicted to stay about 20 degrees above normal for the next six days, according to the National Weather Service office in Cleveland.

The warm forecast sets the stage for what is likely to be one of the warmest Februaries in more than 130 years of record-keeping.

Elsewhere in Ohio, other unofficial highs were 70 in Cleveland, surpassing the previous high of 62 set in 1981; 68 in Toledo, topping a high of 59 in 1961; 66 in Columbus, beating a record 63 set in 2011; and Dayton, 65, edging above its previous record of 64 set in 1948.

Cincinnati appears to have missed its record of 68 by about five degrees.
